Would you read it?
Many people like to fill their websites with content. Because content—ostensibly—is what a website is for.
Of course, when it comes to reading the content on other peoples’ sites, it’s easy to rationalize why it’s so often ignored.
It doesn’t help me solve my problem. It simply gets in the way.
I don’t have the time or patience. It’s too long to read.
The fact that stakeholders’ don’t typically read all of what’s written on other (similar) sites is reason enough to question writing more than what’s needed.
And why the question, “Would you read it?” (if it wasn’t your site) might be worth asking at the start. Before you hire someone to write content that someone like you won’t care to read or even notice.
