What writing is for
I recently saw a writer use the word ‘domiciled’ to describe where a service was located.
Thing is, nobody uses that word. At least not where I’m from.
School sometimes encourages us to use words we don’t often hear, because it makes our writing sound smarter or more original.
But that’s not what (good) writing is, or what it’s for.
Because the purpose of writing is to convey a comprehensible, easy-to-read, and useful message, regardless of form.
