What will you do to change the world?
Sara Blakey (of Spanx fame) has a secret to cultivating courage.
She says that, for her, ‘courage comes from gratitude.’ That by looking at the women who came before her (and after), and comparing the opportunities they had to the one’s she’s been given—to the lucky breaks she’s had—she can manufacture the strength to propel herself forward.
All of us can do more than we’re often willing to do for ourselves, when we’re willing to do that something for someone, or for something, bigger than us.
And good news too. Because almost all of us were born at the right place and the right time. Richer than kings. With more access and more agency than we realize.
And so the question, ‘what will you do to change the world?’ has a double meaning. Not just, what will you accomplish. But what will you do—that you otherwise wouldn’t—knowing that you now have the permission, the capacity, and the obligation to change it.
