What to do with an hour lunch
Like most folks in office jobs, we’re allowed an hour lunch at my current post.
I figure that’s 30 minutes to eat a packed lunch (or 45 if you want to make a fast dash for carry-out).
What’s interesting is what people do with the remaining time.
Most folks go back to work.
Which would seem like an convenient way to get ahead. But it’s not.
That’s because you can’t outpace a infinite inbox. No matter how hard you work, tomorrow, the the task manager will inevitably fill back up. And if all you’ve done at the end of the day—everyday—is complete your to-do’s, you’ll have nothing to show for your work.
What's your future self going to do when you find yourself looking for your next gig? Bored or burnt out or laid off or simply looking for something new.
If you’re not contributing to a body of work, something you can put your name on, what you’re really doing is spending all your time and energy investing in someone else’s dream, not yours.
If that’s not worth spending 30 minutes a day on, what is?
