What are you best at?
As cliche as is sounds, this is probably the best litmus test out there for deciding what you should do for a living.
It’s not merely because you’ll most likely enjoy it.
It’s because of leverage, and time.
If you want to be the person who’s always got a gig, no matter how niche your niche, then you have to be the best at what you do.
Not world-class. But at least well-known in the career-space you inhabit.
Hence the incredible upside in getting your 10,000 hours in a fast as possible. Because the faster you do, the more leverage you’ll have.
More control over what you do and where you live and what you charge and who you serve.
It means that when you think about a career, you should consider what you’ve already spent a significant time learning/doing/honing.
Do what you’re best at.
It sure seems like common sense. Yet somehow I managed to go through 4 years of college and 5 years of indecision to think it through.
