We want YOU
I had an encounter the other day that highlights what I think might be wrong with the modern recruiter.
Someone emailed me saying that I was uniquely qualified for a job at a high-growth startup that was uber-successful for xyz reasons.
Acknowledging that this was clearly copied from elsewhere, I sent back a slightly sarcastic response, declining the offer.
Long story short: the recruiter accused me of being unprofessional, stating how if I didn't want the job, I should have just ignored him.
Since when was ignoring someone a sign of professionalism?
If I had spent the time to craft an original message, I'd be upset if the recipient didn't respond to me.
Furthermore, if I get spammed from a recruiter who clearly doesn't care enough to write a personalized email, how am I at fault for being sardonic?
If you're not going to treat me with respect (and it is a matter of respect), why would you expect me to treat you any different?
