The wonders of good signage
After frequenting IKEA the past few days (their cafe makes an excellent co-working space) I've started to notice their use of explicit signage.
The first thing you'll see is, it's everywhere. Literally. On doors, floors, and elevators. Above products, and on their packaging.
Everywhere you might need more information, or some direction. As if they knew what you might be thinking as you are thinking it.
There's a lot to be said about the design of a space or a thing--having an intuitive sense of how things work and how to use them. But good signage matched with clear and minimal copy makes up for a lot of what can't be communicated otherwise.
All the more reason to first, let go of the words, and then, after, work overtime to fill in what's left with the right copy, communicated it the right context, and said in the right way.
