Societal burden
Administrative burden refers to the idea that regulations originally intended for good purposes can nonetheless burden members of society.
Often overlooked is the burden imposed on all of us when our rules and regulations create more net negative outcomes than positive ones.
Because, of course, many rules don’t just cost the people they directly affect—whether it impacts their health, employment, or wellbeing—but affect all of us indirectly, with costs accrued by those effects.
Making it more difficult for someone with a high degree of potential to receive a good education, get a great job, buy a home, or have a life, only hurts us in the long run. Same goes creating and maintaining systems that hold people back.
The more we realize that, in the long run, helping others helps us as well, the closer we’ll be to having a society where we all benefit.
