Paying for mediocrity
I reached out about a job as an editor at a local startup.
The pay rate, little did I know, was $15 an hour. A few cents shy of minimum wage where I live.
It’s a disturbing occurrence. Not because it’s not fair. Or because a developer or designer or hotshot sales-person would scoff at that number.
But because the founders at this ostensibly smart company would even consider giving the job of ’scaling their organic content,’ ‘helping their readers make more informed decisions,’ or ‘shaping their $300 million market-opportunity future’ with anything less than the best.
