Passing the puck
I went to a professional hockey game for the first time.
Something I noticed is that instead of “hogging the puck” (as what tends to occur in other sports) hockey players will pass the puck way out into the open, anticipating that their teammates will be in the right position to receive it.
There’s a lot of ways to make that into a metaphor about collaboration and teamwork. But it’s not just about working together and being aware of those around us–it’s an apt reminder that sometimes, when the going gets tough, the best move might be to let go of what seems to be working and put your faith in the process of trying something new.
Clinging to what feels familiar sure feels comfortable, but it can blind us to possibilities we don’t yet know exist.
Holding onto the puck for too long can leave us corned, causing us to lose possession entirely. Whereas sharing the puck and passing it can increase our chances of scoring.
