Optimistic nihilism
Does it matter what car you drive, or who you marry?
Any more than what your boss thinks of you? Or what career track you’re on?
Does it matter where you sit in the theater or what you’re watching?
Or what shade of blue you use to paint your bathroom?
Does anything really matter?
Specifically, no. Generally, probably not either. And that’s okay.
Of course, if you want anything to matter, if you care enough to make it so, it does.
The point is, it’s a choice. You alone get to create the meaning (the mattering) of your life.
Nothing matters, unless you make it so.
