Objective advice
Recently I've noticed I have a problem following my own advice.
Not the subjective advice I’d give myself based on my story and background and circumstances (that’s easy to follow).
No. I have a problem following the objective advice I’d probably give to a close friend.
Unfiltered. Unvetted. No-nonsense.
Free from the narrative I have about who (I think) I am and what (I think) is possible for me, and what (I think) is going to happen if I take it.
Objective advice is rare and invaluable. It can sound ludicrous (for good reason). But that’s just because it’s free of the limitations you’ve created…a product of a world that’s closer to the one that actually exists, not the one you’ve invented.
I.e., if you have a problem that needs solving, following the advice you’d give a friend might be a good first step.
A second? Ask for advice from someone you respect. Recognize that it’s probably far more objective that what you’re telling yourself. Then take it.
