Long time no see
Unless you’ve forgotten to check your email in the past several months, you’ve probably noticed I haven’t been writing as usual.
I’ve been busy. Or, rather, I’ve burned out.
Between writing for work and writing for pleasure, I’ve found I seldom have the energy to write after hours. So my blog has unfortunately taken a backseat.
That’s one of the reasons why I recently called it quits at the agency I was at.
Now that I’ve taken a step back from writing (and taken a job where I don’t have to write as often), I realize how much of it I enjoyed. Not because writing is a fantastic way to make a living (it isn’t.) But because expressing yourself by writing is a fulfilling experience in itself.
As Ursula Le Guin said, “We need writers who know the difference between the production of a market commodity and the practice of an art.”
It turns out that writing is as much a rewarding personal endeavor as it is (for some) a rewarding career. So while I’m effectively done with the latter, I’m eager to return to the former.
…
P.S. I’m also moving my blog, for the time being, from WordPress to Substack, mainly cause I don’t want to pay hosting fees for a site that I frequent more than my actual readers. Plus, my hunch is that by moving to a platform that people actually pay attention to, I might find a few more.
