Limited or abundant
It's not hard to find quality tupperware, because the stuff you'll find at your local discount store is often just as good as the stuff in Crate & Barrel.
Which is why quality tupperware generally isn't a status symbol. Because unlike diamonds, it's not a particularly scarce resource.
The tupperware industry is a pretty crowded one even if you can make one a little better* or a little cheaper. Which means that unless you can find a way to make yourself radically scarce overnight, it's hard to see how you can differentiate yourself well enough to not have to struggle to survive.
Point is, you can either be in the business of selling tupperware or in the business of selling diamonds. But you can't do both.

*There are exceptions. OXO is widely considered the industry leader in this space, mainly because they have the resources to hire industrial designers who can make their products better than their competition, year after year.
