Issues with self-control
Many have issues with self-control (I sure do.) In fact, I don’t think I need to cite a statistic for you to agree.
Of course, this is primarily because we’re not wired to regulate our behavior in the face of overwhelming temptation. At least not long term.
Thousands of years of evolution has taught us that if you’re nearby something that tastes good, you should eat it without a fuss. And for the vast majority of humans who have lived on this planet, there hasn’t been a need for an internal debate over whether or not doing so was in their better interests.
That’s why when you bring a dozen donuts into your home—it’s far easier to eat all of them than to convince yourself to eat only one.
Perhaps this is why restricting the foods that enter your home—as opposed to strictly dieting—seems to work for many people.
Because then it’s not about what you can and cannot consume or by how much—it’s about eating what’s available when your hungry.
