How bad is a bad apple?
(And, how good is a good one?)
It’s hard to gauge what ‘good enough’ looks like unless you can discern between what’s acceptable and what isn’t.
It’s easy when everything is really good (or really bad). But it gets trickier when it’s not so clear cut.
Having a checklist, and some firm rules, usually helps.
Saying: these things have to be done and if they aren’t it’s not acceptable,” is a lot easier than saying, “do your best.”
It’s also way more efficient than relying on good judgement, only to find out later that your output isn’t meeting spec.
