Choosing empathy
If I give up the EV charging station for someone else, am I doing it to make myself feel better?
Or am I doing it for the ungrateful unknowing person who will discover an empty spot?
It's a trick question. But not too difficult.
Of course you're doing it for you. Because the oblivious person is just that.
That's what makes it a generous act; no reciprocity.
He doesn't have to notice for you to practice empathy.
And you don't have to know that he cares, or seek credit.
The practice of leaning into someone’s point of view, of making their world a little better off, of choosing kindness, is a reward in itself.
If you're only willing to embrace it.
