Cast a net
…not just a hook.
Something you learn quickly when trying to get the attention of people is that not everyone is going to openly give you theirs.
Most people, in fact, will reject you, or more precisely, ignore you.
And so you have a choice to make: you can either place your bets on a few people (a few high-prized hopefuls), or many. People from all walks of life. In far off places or with strange occupations.
One is expensive (because your prospects might not all get back to you).
The other is cheap (because surely someone will listen or care).
If you’re going to be turned down either way, you might as well spread out the risk.
