Bundles of skills
In The First 20 Hours, Josh Kaufman makes the case you can learn a new skill (and be sufficiently good at it) with about 20 hours of deliberate practice.
If that holds true, that means that given 90-minutes of daily practice, you can pick up a new skill in as little as two weeks.
And, since we know that jobs are mostly bundles of skills, it would appear that getting a new job, or pivoting into a new field, isn’t nearly as hard as it appears.
Because while there is a bit of domain knowledge involved, once you’ve done the reading, once you know the best practices, the theory, and the tools of the trade, acquiring the skills you need is merely as matter of practice.
Picking them up is merely a matter of putting in the time.
