3 levels of prompt design
The first level of prompt design is asking generative ai to write something without a guide. “Write a blog about X.”
The second is to use a template or example. “Write an email that follows this outline. ”
The third level is about leveraging ideas and frameworks that the AI already knows, to give you even better results. “Are you familiar with X?…Do this using X.”
For example, I recently asked ChatGPT if it was familiar with The Mom Test by Rob Fitzpatrick (a simple way to frame questions to avoid confirmation bias) and asked it to create a list of questions that passed the test.
I'm not so sure it'll work for everything in every context. But thinking about prompts in terms of levels of specificity can be a useful way to think about how to make the most of these tools, using what we already know and have at our disposal.
